MEETING OF SWIMMERS

At a meeting of swimmers held lasd night in the Amateur Sports' Federation Rooms , presentations were made ,to Messrs. T. llonayno (president of the centre), J. Henrys, D. K. Blair, A. Lovy, and R. B. Grange, who arranged many and various social functions during the visit of the Australians to Wellington at Christmas time. Apologies jor non-attendance were received from Messrs. Henrys and Gr&hge, who were out of town. In making the presentation, tho Chairman (Mr. J. F. Aekihs) said that the gentlemen they were honouring that evening came forward in a manner, the like of which had never been known before in local swimming circles. "They showed us." he continued, ''what it ia to have real solid men at our back. They entertained in a manner right and royal." He then recounted what each had done, and said that the centre had not been called upon to con* tribute one iota towards entertaining. The centre was left with abßOlntely nothing to do. Therefore, he had much pleasure in presenting eaoh gentleman with an enlarged framed photograph of the members of the Wellington Centre, together with N the Australian visitor*. The presentation completed, all present sang "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and finished up with three hearty cheers. Tho recipients present then responded, saying that what they had done was done quite willingly> and on the occasion of a similar visit they would be only too pleased to repeat their actions.
