' 'Tho principal events were won as follows :: — > Five Novice.—- A. Anderson, 38sec, 3± h.p. Triumph, 1; F. S. Lane, scr, 7 h.p. Indian, 2. Time, 6min 27sec. ■ • Ten Mile Handicap.— E. F. P. Hinds, scr, 7 h.p. Indian, lj A. Anderson, 75sec, 3£ h'.p. Triumph, 2 ; F. S. Lane, lOsec, 7 h.p. Indian, 3. A splendid race, only a second separating the two first men. Time, 13min 3sec. Hinds' time was llmin 23sec. >' Fifteen Miles Handicap.— Hinds, scr, 7 h.p. Indian, 1 ; F. S. Lane, 30sec, 7 h.p. Indian, 2; A. Anderson, 146se'c, '34 h.p. Triumph, * 3. Hinda rode an extremely good race, and won fairly easily. Time, 19nrin 40sec. Hinds' time was 16min 20sec. The latter also won the fastest time for any two races. AMATEUR ATHLETICS. Yesterday the WdodviUe amateur athletic sports afforded Palmerston athletes an opportunity to further beplenish their store of trophies. The following were the successes of Manawatu A. A. Club men:-i-H. Stagpoole, second 100 yd s; K. Tait, second 120 yds hurdles, third 100 yd s; J. Walsh, Becond 220 yd s; T. Neal, second mile ; D. Park, second 440 yds, and second half-mile.
