MOTOR-BUS SCHEME FOR PETONE

COMPANY tfO BE JB'OfeMfiO. The Petoae Tramway Syndicate, which was fartbed some time ago with the object of installing a tram service in Petone, has abandoned the idea of trams for the present on account of the conditions imposed by the council, and also on account of the present labour ' unrest. A motor 'bus scheme is now under consideration, and a company,' styled "The Petone Tramway Company, Ltd," has been formed, and the share-list has already been opened. A motor 'bus, capable of holding thirty persona, has bedn ordered, and the company proposes to charge a fare of a penny between tho station and Cuba-street. The^ sub-committee set up by th» Borough Council to confer with ths syndicate was discharged by the council afc its last meeting. At a. previous meeting the council decided to ask the syndicate its intention and as no reply was received, tho above course was taken. It is understood that the reason for no ntove on the part of tho syndicate for some time past was that the promoters were undecided whether to carry out tho old idea of trams or forsake them in favoUr of the motor 'bus aa advised by its representative, who journeyed Home, and reported in favour of the latter means of locomotion.
