Gerard alleged he had received, the stolen tyre.; Counsel detailed his mo»jments on the day on which the visit was alleged to have be«n made, and called witnesses to substantiate his own evidence that he could not possibly have been in My^oes Bash on the, day indicated. The Magistrate remarked that he regarded William Hazlett'e statement about MacDonaid as quite irrelevant. Samuel Hazlett, brother of William Hazlett, deposed that Gerard had taken out his cheque book and said he would give his brother £100 if he would swear hegot the tyre from Chrißtehurch. The Magistrate said that no doubt the tyre was etolen, ajid convicted Gerard. Sentence was deferred pending tho probation officer's report.
