PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
Mr. R. H. Webb presided over a meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals yesterday, a large v number of members being present. The Inspector complained that there were no water-troughs at Karori, which he considered was a great hardship on the horses. In fact, Wellington was the worst place he had been in in regard to the supply of water4roughs for horses, the number at present existing being wholly inadequate.- There should be no difficulty in placing Borne at Karori. It waß decided to .write to the local ttuthc rities, drawing attention to the matter. The at&ntion of the meeting wa« drawn to a paragraph which appeared in The Post a few days ago, telling of a valuable prize dog being suffocated in the luggage van' of a train. Several members spoke Btrongly about the ac» commodation provided for dogs on trains, and urged that it was time that something was done by the society to see that dogs on trains got proper airspace. It was eventually decided to ask Mr, Seed to examine the boxes' for the carriage of dogs on the trains, and report to the next meeting of the society. Accounts amounting to £2 2s were passed for payment. ( . Donations to the funds of the society were acknowledged, with thanks, as follow :— Kirkcaldie and Stains, £1 ls ; Mrs. J. G. Wilson, lls; A.
