ATLANTIC CABLE ADVOCATED. (BY TEIEOBAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.) , AUCKLAND, This* Day. , ' At. the annual . meeting of the New ■Zealand branch of the Empire Press Union held to-day seventeen were present, Mr. G. Fenwick presiding. Messrs. W. Dinwiddie, R. ,P. Furness, R. J. Gilmour^ and A. L. Muir were elected associate ' members. The chairman and executive were re-elected. • On the motion of Mr. Leys it was decided to urge on the New' Zealand Government the importance of uniting with Canada and Australia in urging upon the Imperial authorities the necessity for constructing an Atlantic cable to work in conjunction with the Pacific cable and under the same board. A motion was also carried thanking the English' council of the unidn for -its efforts to secure the Atlantic cable and cheapen the postage on colonial newspapers.
