UNREST AMONG EMPLOYEES. (BY TELEGSAtH — PBBSS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Tho annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association was begun last night. Twenty -jveven members were present. Mr. Selig, in his presidential address, said the membership had increased from, 31 to 62 in 15 years. Referring to tho unrest among employees in many departnKinte, he said the Tecsnt linotype award was anything but satisfactory to proprietors; it affofcted the city offices to a considerable extent, while the increases in pay in the country were very considerable, in one caee totalling £260 a year. Touching on the demahde of journalists, through the Institute and unions, he said he and other proprietors offered no objection to the Arbitration Act applying, but- was sore that Mr. W. P. Reeves, when he framed the measure, never meant it to "apply to other than mechanics and unskilled workers. He thought that, with few exceptions the journalists were not dissatisfied with the ruling conditions.
