BOWLING
EASTBOURNE CARNIVAL. The Eastbourne Bowling Club was favoured with splendid weather on Saturday night for its carnival. The bowling green (on the property Of Mr. W. F. Shorfct) looked splendid, lighted aa it was with fairy lamps, Chinese lanterns, acetylene gas, and the new "Kefona," light Dancing was indulged in on the croquet lawn, and bowls was played by mixed teams of ladies atid geiitlemen ,• besides whioh the patrons were treated to an open-air concert of considerable merit. At 10 p.m. supper was served in a large marquee on the lawn. During the evening the president (Mr. Sanson) welcomed the visitors, and expressed the pleasure the club felt at seeing to many present. Mr. W. F. Shortt., who also extended a welcome, thanked the ladies for their splendid Work in the club's behalf in the past, and hoped they would still continue to help them with their new Venture. They had acquired a property from Dr. Mackenzie, and it was considered one of the most beautiful spots in the bay. During the carnival Messrs. R. Sievers, F. Downes, and E. B, Shortt sang, Mr. Marcus Marks told stories, and the dance music was played by Miss Marks and Mr. W. Morris. LOCAL CENTRE. • A mating of the Wellington Bowling Centre was held last night, Mr. V. Dimock presiding. Mr. T. L. Churchward forwarded his resignation as secretary of the centre. He explained that he had been compelled to take this course for business reasons. On the motion of Mr. E. J. Hill, seconded by Mr.* W. J. Hueston, it was decided that Mr. Churchwards resignation be accepted with regret, Mri Hill remarked that- Mr. 'Churchward had been the -life and soul of the 'centre for some considerable time, and he moved that a substantial' presentation be made to him in. recognition of hi,s services. The motion was seconded by Mr. T. S. Powell I Mr. Hueston said Mr. Churchward was responsible for the present position of the centre. He had done an immense amount of good to bowling, not only in' Wellington but in the whole of New Zealand. The motion was agreed to unanimously, and it was decided that all the delegates to the centre and the secretaries of affilated clubs should constitute a presentation committee and meet next Monday night. t . ' Mr. Dimock was elected secretary of the centre pro tern. . Mr. Cox (Karorli moved that a pairs tournament be held at -Easter, and that the entrance fees be paid to the Citizens' Carnival Fund as the Wellington bowlers' contribution. The motion was seconded by Mr. E. J. Hill, and carried. ■ The tournament will be held on. Easter Saturday and Monday. The final Pennant match between the" Victoria and Newtowa Clubs will be held on Bth March, probably on Wellington Club s green. The final for the junior singles, Wellington Bowling Club, was decided yesterday evening; when S. Potter defeated A '/«*i V ie scores Potter 17 and 26, Purdio 16 and 16.
