DOUBLING NUMBER OF PRIMARY SCHOOLS 1AFFILIATED UNIVERSITIES. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received FebrUafJf 24, 8.20 a.m.) DELHI, 23rd February. The Education Department has announced that while free and compulsory education is impracticable, it hopes shortly to provide schools for double the present number of primary scholars, while free education will be given to those who are unable to afford to pay fees. A great effort is to be made with regard to girls' education, especially in the direction, of hygiene. It is proposed to have an affiliated University in each of the leading provinces. An appeal is being made to wealthy Indians to support the Government's scheme.
