CITIZENS' EASTER CARNIVAL

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. In connection with the coming carnival the various sub-committees are working with enthusiasm, and the result of their labours afc this early stage is encouraging. Among the numerous committees at work is the side-shows section, .who recognise that having secured the presence of a large concourse of people to Newtown Park their duty will be to provide amusement and incidentally relieve patrons of their surplus cash. The committee held another meeting on Friday, when in the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Mr. J. P. Luke presided. The following were added to the committee, Mrs. W. L. Leverstam, Messrs. H. Levy, J. 1 G. Faulkner, A. Levy; W: C. H. Blick, A. Walker, W. L. Leverstam. The Miramar Golf Club (Mr. G. 0. Sutton, secretary) intimated that tho club would be pleased to take charge of the golf putting competition. Mr. E. Nordon forwarded full information re golf putting and intimated that if possible he would come up from Christchurch and would give the executive all the assistance possible. Mr. T. H. Edmanson, district secretary Dominion Boy Scouts, intimated that the Newtown Troop would be attached to the side-shows section. The secretary (Mr. Paape) intimated that when at Masterton he had conferred with the proprietors of the best sideshows, who would make -an offer to the committee. Messrs. Atkins and Grange intimated that the Wellington Meat Export Company and the Gear Meat Company had each donated a sheep for the guessing competition, and Mr. Barnett notified that Mr. Pveid, butcher, Brooklyn, had donated a sheep for the same competition.

Formal application has been made by the Union Steam Ship Company to have ■the dispute with the Marine Engineers' Institute heard before the Conciliation Commissioner.
