The Sydney Morning Herald, com* menting on the increase of trade of New Zealand with Canada, due to the subsidy for the Vancouver mail Bervioe, says the increase Is unfortunately at the expense of Außtmlia, whose exporter^ are being gradually elbowed out of the trade be cause they are unable to get Bpace for c&vgo, and the handicap of having to pay, full duty on their shipments, while New Zealanders, under the reciprocity agree* " ment, get a rebate. "We desire," Bay* the Herald, "auti as an Empire Dominion we ought to have, a % far larger Bhare of the Canadian market than we possess. It is to be hoped that the projected visit of the Canadian trade ambassador will be used by the Commonwealth Government to the fullest advantage. We have no desire to interfere with New Zealand enterprise devoted to New Zealand de« velopment j but it is plain that Australia, ftt present is unduly shut out of Canadian communication. We must come once more into effective touch with that lost aone of trade. Whether it be by, means of a new independent service remains for the decision of the Govern* ment." '
