The streets were thronged until a late hour on Chrisj.maß Eve, and all the business place* appeared to be well patrohig&d. Many took advantage of tho cheap excursion, faros, and travelled away from home, while many arrived from different parts to spend their holiday with their Mends and relative* hqre. The'annual picnics of the Methodlat ahd Sdlvatibh Army Sunday Schools were hold on Baaing Day. Tho youngster* thoroughly anjoyed the outhig. The now premises ereoted here for the Bank of New South Wales were completed on Monday last, and the bank will open for business in them to-morrow. The structure in a decided acquisition to the bueinedd promises of tne town, and »houW be the means of considerably increasing the bank's connections. The Cttrterton Bf&fes Band h** been engaged io BUpiily the music at Tauherenikau races next week. The Waiohihe bridge at South Carterton, half way between Qv6Jrtown and here, has boon doled for traffic, on account x>t its unsafe nature, sftid to be due to a heavy load naming over it on Monday night. Travellers have now to take .the Matarawa route, pending tho re* pairing of |>h,e bridge, which Work might possibly be held up through failure to get suitable timber.
