MELBOURNE, 6th December., oiidge Burnside, in sentencing an embezzler who had lost money at the .races, said: "The gates of hell are open in front of you on the racecourse, and you will find yourself in a hell on earth if you follow that line." PICTURE FOR VICTORIA. LONDON, 6th December. The- trustees of the Felton Bequest have purchased Jean Cazin's picture, "The Rainbow," for the National Gallery of Victoria. The price paid was £800. OBITUARY. SYDNEY, 6th December. The death is announced of Mr. George Pile, a prominent business identity, and formerly of New Zealand.
