PERSONAL MATTERS

The Hon. W. F. Massey left for the South last night. He is due at Dunedin this afternoon ; to-morrow he will attend the Agricultural Show at Balclutha, and then proceed to Lawrence to be present at the farewell banquet to the Hon. J. Allen and to open the new Technical School there. The Hon. W. Fraser also left for the South last night, to be present at the banquet to Mr. Allen. The only Ministers in town to-day are the Hon. W. H. Herriea and the Hon. H. D. Bell. The Hon. A. L. Herd* man left for the North last night, on a prison inspection tour. The Hon. W. F. Massey is duo back in Wellington on Tuesday next. His Excellency Admiral Sir George King-Hall will be the guest of the Now Zealand Club at luncheon next Tuesday, 10th December. Mr. Robert Stevens is leaving for Sydney by the Ulimafoa to-morrow. Mr. A. H. Blake, a visitor from the Argentine, is at present in Wellington on a two-months' tour of the Dominion. Private advice states' that Mr. R,. W. Richards, late Town Clerk of Dunedin, topped tlie poll for one ot the wards at the Sydney municipal elections. The R&v, R. H. Mobttay, vicar of St. Matthew's, Brooklyn, who went to England at the beginning of the year, was a passenger frojn Sydney by the Moana today. Mr. Martin Kennedy leaves Wellington for London on the 13th instant via Sydney, where he will Join the next Orient mail steamer leaving there for London. Captain Spencer Smith, staff officer to Major- General Godley, who ia to rejoin hie regiment early next year, will leave Auckland for Vancouver by the Marama on 20th December", en route for England. Hear- Admiral A. Ross, of the United States Navy, .who has spent some weeks, in company with his daughter, in touring the North Island, arrived in Wellington last night, and is staying at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mr. Arthur Myers, M.P., Auckland, who was Minister of Defence in the Mackenzie Cabinet,, has intimated his intention of attending the banquet to the Hon. James Allen, the present Minister of Defence, in Wellington next week. The Hon. James Allen has accepted the invitation of the College Governors to present the priaes at Wellington Boys' College next Wednesday afternoon, and Mrs, Allen will present the prices at Wellington Girls' College next Thursday evening.
