FORESTERS IN CONFERENCE
(Bt TELEGfiAPH— SPECIAL TO THE POBT.) MASTERTON, This Day. The triennial conference of the Wellington District Foresters' Order was opened in Masterton yesterday, there being thirty delegates from various courts in the district present. The only important business transacted during the day was in connection with the proposil to consolidate the sick and funeral funds of the different courts in the Wellington district. The remit was the medium of much discussion, each delegale present expressing an opinion on the question. The prevailing opinion was to the effect that the time was not ripe for such a proposal to be carried, moTe especially as the existing central investment fund covers much the same gttmnd. Oil the matter being put to the vote, it was negatived by a email majority. The conference is continuing business to-day, when severaJ important matters are to be discussed. Last evening the visiting delegates were entertained at a complimentary banquet in the Club Hotel, there being over one hundred members of various Friendly Societies present. The Mayor of Ma6ter■ton and Mr. G. R, Sykes, M.P., were also present, A long toaet list; was honoured, and a very pleasant evening was spent.
