BOXING
HANNAN DEFEATS COOK. [by xblxobaph— i?ress association.] WESTPORT, 22nd September. The Westport Boxing Association concluded a two nights' toufnattient last evening. The only event of importance on the first night was a bout between J. O'Neill (Westport) and Saunders (Greymou*}. This event terminated at the end of the first round through Saunders getting his collar-bone broken by coming into sharp collision with his opponent's head. Last night Kennedy (Denniston) defeated Dflnn (Nelson), who threw in the towel at the end of the fifth round. Barry (Christchurch) defeated Senior (Westport) in a six-rounds bout on points. Cousens (Nelson) did likewise with King (Denniston). The professional match, W. Hannan v. P. Cook, fifteen rounds, for a purse £50, went the full distance, and was won by Hannan on points. The men were very evenly matched, the onlookers being fairly evenly divided as to which was the better man.
