A NIGHT FOR THE PIONEERS
All care hae been taken to assure a pleasant time for early settlers, and citizens generally, at the Town Hall tonight. Interesting speeches (of reasonable length), music, convereatk-n, light refreshments, are on tho programme, which promises to win the approval of all. It ie hoped to have puch a succesefnt assembly this evening that an "Old Wellington" night will Be assured for next year, on and on, far a long time to come.
Yesterday afternoon tho death occurred at her home, Fcatherston, of Mrs. Hanna Card, relict of the late Mr. John Card. The deceased lady, who was seventy-two years of age, and was predeceased by her husband three years and a-half back, had Only been ill for a few days, suffering from pneumonia. The late Mrs. Card arrived in New Zealand forty-two years ago, and, following upon her marriage to Mr. Card in the same year, settled on the West Coast. Twenty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Card came to Wellington, and two years later settled in Featherston. Two years back the late Mrs. Card, with her two daughters, paid a visit to her native place, Macroom, County Cork, Ireland. Throughout the West Coast and the Wellington province the deceased lady was well known and highly respected. The late Mrs. Card leaves three sons and two daughters. The funeral is to take place at Feathorston to-morrow afternoon, telegraphs otu 1 local correspondent. There was a muster of fifty members of "t> 4) Company. Fifth Regiment, at Johnsonville on Saturday, under Captain F. T. Moore and Lieutenants D. Sloane and Aekin. Movements similar to those carried out by the other companies of the regiment at Lyall Bay were executed. Staff Sergeant-Major Woodward supenised the drill.
