AN INSURANCE COMPANY

INVESTIGATION DESIRED. By Telegraph,— Preu Association.— Copyright. (Received September 20, 10.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. " In the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Mr. Snowball, member for Brighton, presented a petition with five signatures asking for an investigation of the affairs of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society. The petitioners stated that they believed that the holders of one-tenth of the shares desired such an enquiry. Petitions desired the appointment of a Royal Commission or an inspector to investigate. The Chief Secretary said he had communicated with the Attorney-General with a view to taking immediate action to have a preliminary investigation. If the Attorney-General's report showed that there was no truth in the foundation for the charges it would be improper and unfair to appoint a Royal Commission, but if the company could not make a complete refutation of the charges a Commission would be appointed.
