NAVY LEAGUE
Mr. J. B. Harcourt occupied the chair at a meeting of the local executive of the JSiavy League held at the Chamber of Commerce last evening. A quantity of correspondence with London headquarters and the various New Zealand branches was submitted, and the ' hon. secretary reply thereto approved. It was reported, that the Auckland branch had been resuscitated, and that books and details had' been supplied by the Wellington branch. The steps taken in regard, to the frozen wreath for 'Nelson's monument, _ . Trafalgarsquare, on 21st October, were approved. It was decided that the subject for this year's Navy League essay competition should be "Why the British Empire Should Possess- a Supreme Navy." Messrs. C. R. Smith, R. Darroch, and C. W. Palmer were appointed delegates to the Navy League annual conference, fixed tor 12th, September. Accounts amounting to '£32 19s 4d were passed for payment.
