LONDON TUBES
SOME FIGURES. By Telegraph.— Press Association,— Copyright. (Received September 20, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, 19th September. The underground railways in London have, since their electrification, carried 929,000,000 passengers. The train mileage run has been 41,000,000 miles, and there have been 2,400,000,000 movements of the signals without fatality. [The English Railway Review a few days ago severely criticised the automatic signalling in connection with the tube railways, declaring that the working of the system, previously considered infallible, had been marred by failures that were not uncommon, and that accidents had only been averted by the men's promptitude.]
