MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. May Queen.-x No. 10 level (1000 ft). The drive going westward on the reef from the Bright Smile crosscut is now in 72ft. The reef is about two feet wide. The quartz still looks well, and carries very nice minerals. The country is also of a good description. On the Exchange reef stoping is being carried on as usual, and in the quartz coming to hand, nice dabs of gold are frequently seen. Crushing is proceeding, and should be finished towards the end of next week. New Sylvia. — The drive on the reef at No. 3 level is in 196 ft south of the rise. The reef averages over '6ft, and so far neither wall has been cut. Where the pitches for caps were cut the reef is fully Bft in width, and no footwall k showing! The last assays at 192 ft were £2 10s 6d for a width of fi£ft, with no footwall showing. The rise at the intermediate level is up 23ft. The reef is 2^ft wide and heavily mineralised. A stope going north was started from the south rise on tho Sylvia reef, which is 2ft in width. At the battery level No. 4 6tope, going south from No. 1 ripe, the reef is 3ft in width and looks well. In the same stope north, the reef is s^ft wide, with good minerals showing. In the 6topes between Nos. 1 and 2 rises the reef is 2ft wide. Saxon. — The shaft is down 73ft, leaving another 23ft to reach the required distance for opening out No. 7 level. The leader in the shaft has shown a decided improvement. Although in very hard country, it vs. now carrying minerals of the most favourable nature, and the manager is convinced that if met with in a better class of country, good values would be obtained. At No. 6 level 10ft have been driven west from the bottom of the winze, and the reef is now more compact. It looks well, and the country 16 of a better description. The manafer adds: "Gold should be got at any reaking down." Old Hauraki.— At the 400 ft level the south face is in 24ft from the crosscut. The reef is small and disturbed. The north face is in 31ft. The reef maintains its size, and favourable appearance. Tho 300 ft level is in 466 ft. The riso is up 55ft, and 21bs of picked stone were obtained. In No. 4 block, two etopes are in progress, the reef being up to Bin in width, and colours of gold are seen. The 220 ft ievel face has reached the point where the rise will connoct. Waitangi. — The main drive is in 3601 ft. The reef has .split into ribs of quartz and country. The drive has been altered a little to the north-east, to get the hanging-wall portion of the reef. Tho water is gradually draining off, but there is still a good flow coming from this face.
