The Melaneeian Miseion eteamcr Southern Cross arrived at A.uckland thi» morning, after her winter cruise in the ielande of New Hebrides under the jurisdiction of the Anglican Church, and in the Solomon , group. The Rev. H. N. Drummond, who made the round trip, supplied some details of the voyage and life in the island*. After «a fine weather passage the Southern Cross arrived at Norfolk Island on 23rd April. Here about seventy " boys " and their wives, who had been undergoing a course of training at the mifision school to lit them to take up work a» teachers at their respective islands, joined the vessel, and the voyage was resumed for Vila, the seat of government- in the New Hebrides. The Southern Cross reached that station on lftt May, and then commenced her long cruise round the many islands on whicn. missionaries under the autpices of th« Melanesian Mission are ijtationod. It was found that there had been a great deal of sickness of a more or lets eerioue nature amongst those labouring in the group, but happily upon the arrival of i the Southern Cross practically all were able to report a clean bill of health. In speaking of the work of the mistrionai'ies generally, Mr. Drummond stated that a great deal is being accomplished for the natives, and that it waa apparent that their influence for good i» becoming more widespread each year. A meeting was held at the Dresden last evening witii the object of making arrangements for a complimentary* concert to be tendered x to Mr. Borneo Gardiner. The Rev. Father Hickson, S.M., piesided. During the course of his remarks Father Hickson referred to the services Mr. Gardiner had rendered in the cause of charity. It was decided to hold the concert in the Town Hall on Monday, 29th July. The following Programme Committee was elected : —He y. Father Hickson, Messrs. J. F. Carr, J. F. Woodward, and H. N. Fletcher. Mr. R. A. Keenan was appointed secretary and Mr. Bock (treasurer.
