WELLINGTON CLUB. The sixth round of the annual Pelherick tournament was commenced last w«ek, when Jolly won from Gyles, Barnes from Danks, and Fcuhy from Kemsley. Two outstanding games were disposed of, Jolly winning from Cornwall and Barnes (who is the only competitor on the scratch mark) drawing with Croxton. Barnes forced a, draw by perpetual check after sacrificing a. rook for a. pawn. The leading scores are now as follows: — Jolly, s£, {; Baines, 4i, £; Gyles, 5, 2; Fouhy, 5, 2; Carman, 2,2; and Croxton, I^, I£. The quarterly council meeting,' which was to havo been -held this , evening, has been postponed to fallow of a communication being received from the Nelson Chess Club regarding the next champion, ship congress. The Nelsoh Chess Club was re-formed last Tuesday, and the necessary preliminaries are in the hands of a strong committee, consisting of Messrs. J. G. Littlejohn (formerly hon. secretary to the Wellington C.C), Chitten (formerly hon. secretary of the Canterbury C.C), and G. F. Dodds (an exse'eretary and an ex-champion of the Otago C.C). This committee is to.report to a further meeting to bo held to-mor-row evening, when a decision will be come to'as regards joining the New Zealand Chess Association, and applying for tho next championship congress to be held in Nelson.
