HOMING PIGEON SOCIETY

The . committee of the Wellington Homing Pigeon Society, in the report to be , laid before . the annual meeting of .the society next week, congratulates members upon the prosperous condition! of the society. The balances to the credit of the general fund and also the two trophy funds are very satisfactory. The committee regrets* that during the year death removed Captain Edwin, one of the society *6 oldest officers, who always took a keen interest in the society, and had been president for twelve years. The season's flying was the most successful in the history of the society. Thirty-two races were flown, which brought into competition 1674 birds— the largest number in any one race being 280. The result of a private race from the Throe Kings, while not as satisfactory as was hoped for, showed that if members cared to risk well-tried • birds it was possible to fly from that point. A feature of the year's racing was the close finishes in many intances, Uiere being three dead-heats for firsts and four more for places. A number of M'MUlan clocks were in use during the season and gave every satisfaction. The maritime champion trophy was won by Mi. J. Elliott, with 33 points, who also secured legs-in for the Young-Bird Cup, tho Trophy Fund trophy, and the Trophy Produce Fund Trophy. Mr. A. Claris; was second with 29 points, and Mr. Bolton third with 25. An innovation in connection with the presentation ol prizes was a smoke concert, organised by tho committee, which provided a very enjoyable evening. The thanks, of the society are due to the many donors of trophies, and to the press ; also to those who kindly acted ac liberators and advisors, and to Mr. Elliott for the 'tissc of bifl rooai % committee meetings, etc...
