'< __ A mass meeting called by the Federation of Labour in the Opera House last night was largely attended. Speeches were delivered by Mr. Semple and Mr. Webb on the Waihi and Reefton deputes, and the following resolution was passed : — " In connection with the Waihi strike, it is the opinion of this meeting that the interpretation of the Conciliation and Arbitration Act by the Crown law officers is contrary to the intention of the Legislature, and altogether against the interests of the workers, in view of the fact* that it brings about compulsory arbitration ; and wo are farther of j opinion that the men of Reefton. are justified in resisting the introduction of tho single-handed ' popper,' and they j have our utmost sympathy .in the lockout."
