AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last evening, Mr. A. A. Marryatt presiding. In connection with sports meetings held by the Westport Football Club at Capo Foulwind .and Granity Creek recently, the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union wrote, stating that there was a doubt as to whether the meetings were ( conducted on a strictly amateur basis.' It was alleged that certain cash men competed. The Canterbury Centre is to be asked to report on the matter. An application for reinstatement by A. N. Clark was referred to the New Souih Wales A. A. A., and Messrs. A. M. St. George and R. Sprague's applications were referred to tho Auckland Association. Affiliation was granted to the Feilding Harrier Club. It was decided to donate £10 10s towards the improvements now being carried out on tho Basin Reserve. The Canterbury Association applied to have the performance of J. M'Holm, in throwing the 161b hammer, 135 ft B£in ut the centre's sports meeting on the 24th of February, recognised as a New Zealand and Australian record. As there had been only one competitor, it was decided that the performance could not bo recognised.
