CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Council of fr Jhamber of Commerce held yestei ay afternoon was attended by Messrs. A. E. Mabin (chairman), A. S. Biss, C. W. Jones, T. Ballinger, E. G. Pilcher, T. C. Dawson, F. W. Manton, A. Leigh Hunt, W. J. Thompson, and J. Macintosh. It was decided on the motion of Mr. Jones that in future the press be admitted to regular council meetings. A letter was received from the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, staling that the resolutions passed by the different waterside workers' unions in respect to size and mode of packing certain articles such as cement, manures, etc., having caused considerable confusion, the question had had the consideration of the chamber. It had been resolved to communicate with other chambers, suggesting that a conference of the various chambers at shipping ports and the waterside workers' unions be called with a view to one definite packing being decided upon j and that a definite agreement between tho various parties interested should then be drafted. Canterbury asked if Wellington was agreeable to the course suggested. It was decided that the chamber should notify Canterbury that it was willing to be represented at the suggested conference.
