POISONED PAUPERS.
GERMAN CHEMIST SENTENCED. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received May 6, 2.30 p.m.) BERLIN, sth May. In January la&t a chemist was arrested for supplying paupers with a drink composed, of two parts of methylated spirits and one part of schnapps. He has been tried and found guilty, and sentenced to fivo years' imprisonment. Two other persons charged were each sentenced to two months' imprisonment. A publican also charged was acquitted. [There were 141 victims of what was known a© the shelter poisoning affair, and of these seventy died. It was at first suggested that the poisoning was due to copperas on the cooking vessels. The authorities at the shelters ordered the inmates to destroy spirits obtained from Certain distilleries.]
