Th« Harbour Board carried a resolution to include in the 1912 Empowering Bill a clause giving the board power to acquire and control th© ferry services of this port. The chairman (Mr. Gunson) explained to th© board that there had recently been considerable trouble with the ferry companies. Though large sums had been expended in their intereste the companies were dissatisfied. Experience had led him to conclude that the time had come when the board should acquire permission by legislation to take over the ferries as the municipalities had permission to resume tramways. Mr. Alison, manager of fche Devonport Ferry Company, and Mr. Btadney, M.P., strongly opposed th© motion, but they were th© only dissentients.
