COUNCIL HOLIDAYS TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —May I enter a, protest? I found on enquiry through the 'phone that the council offices wero shut to-day. Is thia correct? Tho thing seems absurd. Why should our municipal offices be closed on St. George' 6 Day? Sir, how are plumbers,_ builders, etc., and the public to get their work through if this inconvenience exist* ? The answer probably is that notice *is given to these tradesmen and also ia tho press. The council is for publio convenience, and' no one has a right to close those offices except on statutory holidays and weekly half-holiday. Ix, again, I am wrong, and St. George's Day is provided for as & council holiday, then I say it is not right that tho public should bo barred from getting information. It's quite time the public bestirred themselves a little, and insisted upon the council being conducted upon busiaejss-like lines. I have very good reason for entering this protest. —l am, etc., HAD ENOUGH. 23rd April.
