HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The department has received, the following cablegram from tho High Commissioner, London, dated 20th April, 1912. (Note — Quotations, unless otherwise specified are average marker prices on spot) : Mutton. — The market is quiet but firm. Heavy-weights are difficult to sail at an average price of 3gd per lb. A good demand continues for lighter carcases, selling at an average price of- 4d per lb. I Ewes, 3^d per lb. Lamb. — The market is steady, with a very good demand. Prices are firm at I the last rates quoted — Canterbury, s£d ; other than Canterbury, s§d per lb. Beef. — The market remains firm. A email supply and a good demand continues. New Zealand hinds, 4id per lb; New Zealand fores, 3£d_per lb. Butter. — The market is very depressed. Buyers of _ butter aro holding back, oxpecting_ prices to go lower. A large decrease in consumption is reported on account of high prices and labour troubles recently. The average price for the weels for choicest New Zealand butter, per cwt., is 1146; Australian, 112s; Argentina, 110s; Danish, 1265; Siberian, 112s. pheoso. — Tho market is quiet, prices slightly wcakcx*. Stock is moderate. Tho average price for the week for t finest New Zealand cheese per cwt is 725. Hemp.— The market steudv, but no demand. New Zealand good fair grade, per ton; £21 10s to £21 15s; N.Z. fair grade, per ton, £20 for any positions. For Manila the market is firmer. Fair current Manila spot per ton, £21 10s; forward shipment, £21 15s. The output from Manila for tho week wa3 24,000 bales. Wool. — Tho market quiet, but steady. Current quotations Tor Bradford tops: — 36'e, low crossbreds, Is Id ; 40's, low crossbreds, Is l^rd; 44's, medium crossbreds, Is 2d ; 50's, half breds, Is s£d ; 56's, quarterbreds, Is 7Jd; 60's, merinos, 2s O^d. Hops. — Tho market is firm with improved demand. No change in prices. English, £13; Calif omian, £12 per cwt.
