ITALIAN ATTACK ON THE FORTS. MERELY A DEMONSTRATION. By Telegraph,— Press Association.— Copyright. CONSTANTINOPLE', 20th April.. Tho Italians sank a Turkish gunboat at Vathi, in Sumos. Tho garrison retired inland, abandoning the town, and prisoners broke from the gaol. Vessels quitting the Dardanelles report that ehote from Fort Kumkaleh fell short, and the Italian lire wae badly, directed at the outset, but improved later. Thirty vessels are held up in the Da.rdauellee, unable to proceed to the Mediterranean, and incoming merchantmen ' are anchored in B«sika Bay. It is un- ' likely that the straits will bo re-opened for ten days. The Italians seized the Khedive* yacht off Rhodes. ROME, 20th April. The object of the Italian operational ' was merely to make a demonstration and induce the Turkish forces to right. Tho Italians cut the eablre. Their ships suffered no material damage.
