The Mississippi river dykes broke near Beulah, a small town in the State of Mississippi, and a heavy volume of water swept over the lowlying country. Many persons were drowned. One report places the number of dead at 200, but this cannot bo verified under present conditions. Six thousand refugeeo from the re« cently flooded districts are still being maintained by public charity. / '
