The Northern Territory expedition found the blacks peaceable and well disposed. The leader, who is not a mining man, hesitates to express an opinipn on the mineral resources. There are hundreds of miles of highly mineralised and gold-bearing country, the surface of which had only been scratched. He is confident that expert opinion would justify heavy expenditure on water conservation and improved communication. The development of the . mineral resources would become a big factor in stimulating progress.
