BLAZE AT KELBURNE.

TWO HOUSES DESTROYED. Shortly before 1 o'clock this morning, Mr. 0. Goulter, solicitor. 74, Kelburneparade, was awakened by a noise, and no found on investigating the cause, that the kitchen was in flames. On trying to turn on the electric light he found that it had fused, and it is thought that thi« may have been the cause of .the fire. The flames spread quickly, and he and his had to leave the house .hurriedly, being only able to save a few of their Belongings. The Fire Brigade wan informed of the outbreak S' telephone, and on arrival fonnd that c fire had spread to the adjoining boildiog. Ko. 76, a six-roomed- house Owned by Mrs. Goulter, but not ' occupied. By that time, however, the fire had got such a ftrm hold that it was impossible to save the bnildinge. The (bxnwt on the other eide of Mr. Goulter'e, occupied by Mr. J. R. Gray, also caught fire, rrat the brigade waa able to copo -with that, only one wall being slightly damaged. Mr. and lire. Gray are in Sydney, their family being left in charge of the house. Some damage was also done to a house on the south side, No. 78, owned by Mr. King and occupied by Mr. Scott. There m only a email pressure of water available, but fortunately there wae not a strong wind blowing, otherwise the damage would have beon far moro exteneive. "The house iti which the fire originated vras of ten room*. It was insured for £1250 in the Norwich Union office; tile furniture, of which very little wac saved, was instured in the same office for £200, but ■was valued at nearly double that amount. The unoccupied house was ateo insured for £800 in the Norwich Union. Both houses were completely destroyed.
