CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKET.
CHRISTCHURCH, 12th ApriL There is not a, great deal to report regarding the local wheat market. Since the close of the holidays it remains firm, and in a satisfactory condition, while a fair amount of business in small parcels has _ passed. Holders do not seem very anxious to get quit of their stuff, as there is confidence in the future state of the market, and no apparent reason why a weakening should eventuate. The market is steady at 3s sd. There is little oats offering 1 , afid not much speculation, although the demand is good, this probably baing caused by buyers who have orders to fill. The Southland crop is hardly on the market yet, but when it appears prices should ease a little. Barley is firm but quiet at late rates, and a moderate amount of business ia being done. Partridge peas have weakened, tho Home demand being practically nil. Supplies are large, and the price hue dropped Id or 2d. Other produce remains practically unchanged. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile 'Agency Company. Ltd., have received the folowing cablegram from their London houee under date 12th instant :— "There is more enquiry for mutton, tho market is slightly better for 'beet, and *hon» in' cre«Md fiimnew for lamb."
