DAYLIGHT ROBBERY

Ia broad daylight, in a populous quarter of Paris, two armed mon wearing masks ransacked an apartment on the second floor of a flat in the Rue de Vanves, occupied by a contractor named Semoutot and nis wife. The lattei was alone in the flat, when, about 1 p.m., someone rang the belt On opening the door she was confronted by two masked men, one of whom threatened her with a revolver and a knife, while the other bound her, and demanded to know the thereabouts of her money. Her guard stood py her, threatening to kill her if she cried for help, while his accomplice made a search of the premises lasting two hours. Before leaving the thieves helped themselves to somo wine. When they had gone, Madame Semontot ran to the window and shouted for uelp. After an exciting chase, during which one of the burglars fired his revolver at a policeman, the couple were arrested, together with a third member of tho gang who had remained on watch outside tho houi>e.
