LABOUR PARTY'S TRIBUTE. EFFECTS OF OVERWORK.
Reference to the death of Mr. J. Dacey, late New South Wales State Treasurer, who promoted the " Daceyville" scheme of workers' homes at Kensington, Sydney, was made at today's meeting of the New Zealand Labour Party. Mr. E. J. Carey moved— "That this conference of the New Zealand Labour Party records its deep sense of the loss sustained by the workers of Australia in the death of Mr. John Dacey, State Treasure^ of New South Wales, and extends its sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives] also that the resolution be forwarded to the New South Wales Labour Party." Speaking to the motion, Mr. Carey said that Labour Ministers were killing themselves by overwork. Mr. Hughes was laid up on that account, Mr. Pearce was in a_ similar state, and all the Federal Ministers had been, at one time or other, laid aside through overwork. The speaker paid a high tribute to Mr. Dacey 6 housing scheme, which would make a great difference in the cost of living. The seconder, Mr. J. Smith, said Mi. Dace^ was one of the victims of a too abusive press. Mr. E. Tregear assured the conference that the loss of Mr. Dacey was a very serious one indeed. The motion was carried unanimously, all standing.
