Nathan said that there were two sections of tho ceinmu* nity getting a pretty bad run in election mattera in New Zealand just now. They were the Jews and ltoman Oatholicb. Tho Catholics had rxperiencc-d it at the General Election, and the agents of his opponents at the present election were telling people not to vote for him because he was a Jew. Aio wo not good citizens? said the speakex 1 , and do we not carry out our duties of citizenship'/ A Jew- was good enough to bo Prime Minister of England There a,t4> ali fc-^rts of ways one can walk to Terrace End, Mr. Nathan continued, and do you think tho Lord Almighty cares which way I am going to walk to Heaven. These attacks are due to a little want of understanding and education, but if the public, men of the Dominion are going to be personally attacked, and if personal abuse is to be the only reward to men who give up their time to the public, then you are going to lose the. services of the best brained and best business men in, the Dominion and municipal politics.
