BOGUS SWEEP PROMOTER.
AUCKLAND, 9th April. "A" young man promoted a sweep at Ellerslie racecourse on Monday on the St. George's Handicap, and induced quite a number of speculative clients to risk their half-crowns in the gamble. The prize was to bo paid' out after the race at an appointed place, but when tho holder of the winning horse, which turned out to be Antoinette, turned up to receive his money, tho young man was not to bo found. Subsequently the impromptu 6weep promoter was arrested, and to-day he -was -fined £10, in default two months in, gaol.
