NATIONAL ART GALLERY.

BAILLIE EXHIBITION. The New Zealand Academy of Fin© Arts has received advice that the final consignments of British pictures which have been selected by Mr. John Baillie for exhibition, in view of the proposed National Art' Gallery to be established in Wellington, will arrive here by the steamers Bemuera and Kia Ora, due on 2nd and 3rd April respectively. The first and main instalment reached Wellington on Saturday last by the Athenic. As the decision of Mi*. Baillie to revisit his native town has led to a large extension of the original scheme, the council of the Academy is of opinion that the Art Gallery in Whitmore-street will be altogether too small either to accommodate the pictures or the visitors whom they are likely to attract, and an application is therefor© being made to the Wellington Harbour Board for permission to use one of the board's sheds for the purpose. The board will deal with the matter at its meeting this week.
