MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

To-day's sitting of tho Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. \V. G. Riddell, S.M. William Egan was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and two first offenders were dealt with similarly. Archibald Henry, who waß before iho Court on Saturday on a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. It wa3 stated by Sonior Sergeant Darby that accused had gone to the Ohiro Homo. John Walsh, charged with drunkonness and with a breach of his prohibition order, was sent to tho Rotoroa Inebriates' Home for one year. A sentences of three months' imprisonment was imposed on Goodrick Charleston, who pleaded guilty to a charge of being an idlo and disorderly person with insufficient means of support. Chargos of cruelty "to a horse wore preferred against Julius Lamborg and John Thompson. Lamberg failed to appear. Evidence, was given by Constable Taylor to the effect that defendants worked tho animal while it wub in a bad condition. Lamborrj was fined £3, with costs 7s, and penalty of £2, with costs 7s, was imposed on Thompson. Later in the day Lamberg appeared and asked that tho case bo ro-heard. His application was granted, and further evidence will bo taken. An application made by Robert J. H. Floming for variation of v maintenance order was granted. George Sutherland, who failed to appear, was ordered to contribute £1 per week towards tho support of his wife. John White was charged with being an idle and disorderly person. Evidence was given to tho offect that White, called on Itjfeueotor Ellieon at tho Police Station on Saturday, and auked to bo locked up. Ho stated that ho had been drinking for about two months, and that ho had no money and no placo to go to. Mr. Hindmarsh, acting for tho Wharf Labourers' Union, gave White a good character. Ho was a hard worker, and hio only weakness was drink. A week's-- romund was granted in order* to allow the union to tako some action. ' ,1 William Goorgo Bullock was charged with having assaulted William Buchanan on Saturday evening. Ho admitted striking a blow in self-defence. Hi 6 Worship remarked that although there was evidence _of provocation, accused had used excessive force. Ho was convicted, and tincd 20s, with witnesses' oxyonses As.
