END OF A MEETING. PROFESSOR MILLS HOOTED. [BY XELEGBAPH — PKESh ASSOCIATION.'] AUCKLAND, This Da>. A large meeting of timber workers held in tho Fedeial Hall for the'pur"poee of discussing the claims of the Labour Federation, and Professor • Mills's nnity scheme, ended in a storm of dissension. Mr. Scott Bennett advocated the, claims of the federation, Professor Mills hie unity scheme. Mr. Bennett had a q;o.wl hearing, but Professor Mills, on asserting that the thieatened strike was the result of labour being divided, was assailed with cries of "rut" and the interruptions continuing he descended from the platform. There vvae a- call for unionists to leave the building, and an. exodus commenced, but a- call for lair play filled the vacant seats. Professor Milk returned his argument, and declared that if the unity proposals had been accepted the present crisis m Auckland would never have arisen. Amid a chorus of dissent Mr. Fraser, president of the General Labourers' Union, commenced speaking from the back of the building. In indescribable uproar Professor Mills said the secretary of the Timber Workers Union had informed him the audience was evidently opposed to hearing him further, so he would ceas^e. Thie was the signal for a wild demonstration and the meeting ended with cheers for the federation, and hooting
