The Persia Committee entertained Mr. Morgan Shuster at a banquet. Mr. Shuster attributed his dismissal to Russian hostility, which from the first thwarted his* efforts to reconstruct Persian finance. Either the Russian or British Governments intended to destroy any hope of Persia's l egenoration, or those Governments were being continuously grossly misinformed. WESTjKjTNSTER GAZETTE'S REMINDER. THE EMBARRASSMENT OP SHt E. GREY. (Received January 31, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, 30th January. The Westminster Gazette reminds Mr. Shuster that the Mejlies was not entitled to transfer the country's finance to a foreign controller without reference to the other Governments interested. -Mr. Shuster unwittingly placed Sir Edward Grey in a position of great embarrassment towards Pbfsia : on the one hand and towards Russia on the other. The Gazette concludes by trusting that the Anglo-Russian entente would safeguard Persia's independence.
