Troops thereupon surrounded the headquarters, forbidding any entry. The newspapers are not appearing, and all shops and theatres are closed. The Government has taken measures to prevent a bread famine, and soldiery are protecting the gas and electricity plants. Two bomb explosions have occurred, and strikers wrecked some tram cars. Shipping on the Tagus is paralysed.
