TURMOIL IN LISBON.

A strike -among farm labourers has led to a sympathetic cessation of work by all trade unions in the EvoTa district, seventy milea east of Lisbon, while a .general strike has been declared., in the I capital. When ' the strike began a, band of anarchists took possession of the tradeunionists headquarters in Lisbon and incited strikers to assassination and pillage. Troops thereupon surrounded the headquarters, forbidding any entry. The newspapers are not appearing, and all shops and theatres are closed. The Government has taken measures to prevent a bread famine, and soldiery are protecting the gas and electricity plants. Two bomb explosions have occurred, and strikers wrecked some tram cars. Shipping on the Tagus is paralysed.
