. « — ♦ ANNUAL REPORT. / The annual report of the officers and committee of the Wellington Scottish Society of Wellington, to be submitted at to-nighfs- meeting, states, inter alia, that on 31st Decembor, at the oloso of the financial year, tbe society had upon iw list 147 financial members. Since then a considerable number have joined (bringing -the total membership up to nearly 200), a result .which the committee considers highly satisfactory, and tends to show that a Scottish Society conducted on the right lines is necessary, and is highly appreciated. Nearly all the members take an active and useful interest in the society's progress and growing usefulness. "The finance is strong and sound," adds the committee, *"and we are slowly but surely adding to our reserve fund. Our assets on 31st December amounted to £23 8&- 4d, and you will no doubt notice that the bulk of this, about £22, is in cash. . . This sound financial position is owing to the care that the committee has exercised over the expenditure. . Friendly and cordial relations have been established between ourselves and other kindred ) societies in the Dominion, and we may mention tho real Scottish welcome given the contingent of ' our members which journeyed to Masterton on New Year's Day by the members of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society." The committee also acknowledges the receipt through the Scottish Society of New Zealand, Christchurch, of two large boxes containing bunches of heather direct from Scotland ; these -will be distributed to-night. The secretary has carried out his onerous duties in a satisfactory manner. The committee is of, opinion that the time has now come when it would be more satisfactory to fix the secretary's remuneration instead of leaving it to be voted or not, by way of honorarium.
