[Sir Arthur Hamilton Gordon, K.C.M.G., was created Lord Stanmore in 1893. He was born in London in 1829, and was the fourth son of the fourth Earl of Aberdeen. He was Governor of New Zealand • from 1880 to 1882. He was also Governor of New Brunswick (1861-66), Trinidad (1866-70), Mauritius (1871-74), Fiji (1875-80); High Commissioner a-nd Consul-General of the Southern Pacific, 1877-82; Governor of Ceylon, 1883-90.] SIR DALRYMPLE HAY. (Received January 31, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, 30th January. Sir J. C. Dalrymple Hay is dead. [Admiral the Right Hon. Sir John Charles Dalrymple Hay, son of the j second baronet of that name, was born ! in 1821, and succeeded to the title in 1861. He served on the African West Coast, in the Kaffir war of 1835, and in Syria (Acre), in Borneo in 1846 against the Chinese piratical fleets, and in the Black Sea. He was an M.P. 1862-85, and a Lord of tho Admiralty 1866-8, retiring in 1878.] SYDNEY, 30th January. The death is announced of Lady Salomons, widow of Sir Julian Salomons, sometime Chief Justice of New South Wales.
