An official of Jthe British Embassy to Japan, who iB visiting Sydney, stated that bho Japanese Government ha* offered a subsidy for a new steaai servic» to the South Seas, which will probably atari oh Ist March next. The operations of the service will be confined to tho Caroline and Gilbert groups and the outlying islands. Later on the steamer* will probably go to other places. He said he did not think Australia, need fear a Japanese overflow, but til© Japanese were looking towards the South Sea Islands. He did not sets how they coWd be kept from going there.
