StaffSurgeon Woods is about to enter upon a post-graduate course at one of the London hospitals before taken another sea berth. He and Mrs, .Woods are .at present living in a flat in London. Their permanent address will depend largely upon tho next naval appointment which Staff-Surgeon Woods receives. Mr. Stuart Seddon is about to enter an architect's office here for further experience. Captain R. J. S. Seddon is training with the Sixth InfantryBrigade at Aldershot. ' Sergeant T. W. Dollimore and Corporal R. F. Bale of the Telegraph Division, Royal Engineers, sail for New Zealand by the lonic on the 4th January, having accepted service in the Dominion Defence Force as Royal Engineer Sergeant-Instruc-tors. The following Army appointments are officially announced: — Lieutenant R. E. Barker (Ist Canterbury Regiment) to be Second Lieutenant Prince of Wales's Volunteers (S. Lane's Regiment) ; Lieutenant H. B. D: Willcox (Ist Canterbury Regiment) to be Second Lieutenant. Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) ; Second Lieutenant O. 6. R. Barnes (13th N. Canterbury Regiment) to be Second Lieutenant Queen's Own (R.W. Kent Regiment); Lieutenant H. H. Dean to be Second Lieutenant Dorset Regiment. All the appointments date from 20th December. Mr. E. F. Stead (Christchurch) has been adding considerably to his reputation- as « shot. In the first contest he had tied overnight with Mr. S. Nutt (27£ yards), of Bedford, and Mr. Whiteman (25) of Maldon, at the 13th round, when the light had given out ; but saw both, easily beaten by fast .birds on resuming. The chief opposition to him in the £120 -Handicap came from Lord Falconer (24), who grassed 12 out of 13, and 10 out of 11' iri two chances, and JVlr G. P. Passengers leaving on a visit to New Zealand at an early date include the Earl and Countess of Morton, with their son, Lord Sholto Douglas. The main purport of their trip is to indulge in sport— shooting, deer stalking, and fishing. This week the callers at the High Commissioner's have been Mr. Ivan P. Ward (Christchurch), Mr. Hector Macquarrie (Auckland), Captain G. S. Richardson (Wellington), Mrs. and the Misses Richardson and Mr. Kenneth Richardson, Captain. M. M. Gardner (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Wood (Christchurch), Mr. Arthur Evans (Christchurch), Mr. and Mrs. Emil C. Schwartzo and Miss Schwartzie (Auckland). Sincere sympathy is felt for Captain G. S. Richardson and his wife and family in the bereavement whioh has befallen them since they left New Zealand for England. On arrival at Teneriffe_ they received" a cable message from Sir Joseph Ward announcing the accidental death, while drilling with the D Battery at Wellington, of their eldest eon. The sad news has much upset the family, but apart from that they are all well. During his stay in this country Captain Richardson intends to get in touch with the various Territorial organisations with the view of investigating their methods of training. After spending a few days in London the family has now left for Camberley. The Vicar of Kendal hae presented to the^Rev. E. W. J. M'Connell, M.A., tho living of St. George's, Kendal. The gross income ie £230 and the net income £203. The population in the parish numbers between 3000 and 4000. Until lately Mr. M'Connell was vicar of Khandallah, Wellington, New Zealand.
