THE SENATE.

Yesterday's proceedings of the University Senate were mainly concerned with tho, receipt and discussion of a large number of reports brought down by the various committees. ' The interim report of the Committee on Meohanios, etc., for the entrance examinations was brought down. Certain substitutions were made in the statute "The. Matriculation Examination." The Science Committee, in its # final report, recommended that the thesis be submitted to the teacherß of geology in tho affiliated a colleges for an opinion as to how far it is an original work, and that their roport be submitted, along with the report of the English examiner, to the April meeting of the Senate. The Senate adopted the recommendation. Professor J. R. Brown moved : "That to the first meeting of the Professorial Conference the following, questions be referred : — (a) Courses for BCA. and B.So. degrees, and essentially connected subjects, (b) The best method of giving a permanent shape to the conference; that the first conference take place at Wellington. It was decided to have the first conference on 19th November. The motion was agreed to. NOVEMBER EXAMINERS COMMITTEE. The .Novembor Examiners Committee m recommended that the following be asked, 'in the order named, to act as examiners: Jurisprudence and Constitutional History : W. S. Holdsworth, Fellow and Lecturer St. John's College, Oxford; Professor J. H. Morgan, Professor Constitutional Law University College, London; H. Bond, # Fellow of Trinity Hall, and Lecturer in Trinity College, Cambridge. Botany :#: # Professor Balfour, Edinburgh University; Professor Bower, Glasgow University; Professor Seward, Cambridge. Civil Engineering: R. J. Woods, M.E., F.C.H., M.lnstC.E. Geography: G. Chisholm, M.A., 8.50., Lecturer on Geography Edinburgh University; L. W. Lyde, Professor of Economio Geography, University College, London; J. W. Gregory, Professor of Geology, Glasgow University. Statistical Method and Actu-> arial Mathematics: W. Flux, M.A., Board of Trade, London; A. O. Webb, B.Se. (in Economics), University College, London. F. Y. Edgeworth, M.A., D.C.L., Professor- of Economics, Oxford. Examiners for Bachelor of Agriculture. — The committee recommended that the following be appointed examiners: — Mechanical Drawing : Office to arrange. Ento. mology: G. V. Hudson, F.E.S., Wellington. Botany : Professor Kirk, Viotoria College. Physiography and Meteorology : Professor Marshall, Otago University. Bookkeeping: R. Hill Fisher, Christchui'bh. Agricultural Chemistry : B. C. Aston, Wellington. Surveying and Levelling: W. F. Robinson, Christchurch. Mechanics: Professor R. J. Scott, Christohurch. AgricuUuro : Professor Lowrie, -Adelaide. Veterinary Surgery .
